Spilling the Tea

My name is Marilyn, but all of my friends call me Mae, and I’m the Owner and  Designer of Toni Hart Apparel. 

I’m what you would call a “creative" person and I’ve been in love with fashion for as long as I can remember. I sewed Barbie clothes as a kid, and as a teenager I sketched designs, especially gowns. But then, life happened and I decided to be more practical and pursued a degree in education instead. Although I veered away from my first love, my need to create stuck with me. Whether it’s arts and crafts with my son, practicing hand lettering on my iPad, or learning new graphic design skills, I just HAVE to make something.

I’ve wanted to start a design company since 2012. However, I’m a perfectionist and a control freak and wanted to make sure I had everything just so before I started. Of course, life doesn’t work like that and so I never got started. My husband began his own company in 2018 and while I helped him run that business there was always a part of me that wanted one of my own. After much (and I mean MUCH) deliberation, and with my husband’s support, I decided to go for it. And thus Toni Hart Apparel was born.

My goal is to keep my brand authentic, honest, fun, and fresh. No one wants to wear boring clothes and my goal is to keep updating designs every so often just to keep things fresh and new. While I love to produce my designs myself, and I have in the past, I realized that it wasn't giving my customers the best, consistent experience that I could possibly give them. So, I made the tough decision to switch to a print-on-demand format.
